👋 Hi Groundbreakers,

we are working on making Data Feed Apps even better and reducing maintenance tasks for you! Currently we are building a new feature that will be a smart way to automatically update asset meta data coming from data feeds and we are looking for your feedback to see if you would like to be among the first accounts to get this new feature.

➡️ Currently data feed import works like this:
Meta data for your imported assets is created only once—when we first receive a given asset from the data feed. Think of name, brand, model and VIN/PIN for your assets, After that we do not update the meta data again even if we register changes. The reason for this approach is to prevent overwriting any manual updates that you have made in the Trackunit Manager with data from the feed.

We have learned that this approach can have issues, because asset meta data is often not complete yet when the data feed is connected to Trackunit and you miss out on the updated meta data and might even have to do reconfiguration of the data feed integration.

🔁 New automatic update of meta data:

We are implementing a smart logic that recognises if we get new meta data for an asset and then runs a check before accepting the update. It will check if you have overwritten the meta data for this asset in the Manager and only if that is not the case, will we then update the new meta data automatically.

Do you have Data Feeds connected to your account or are looking to add a Data Feed App to your account soon? Then please let us know if you would like to have this new feature enabled, so there is no need to manually maintain meta data anymore. ✨

💡 Quick tip: Check out our Help Center article if you need assistance on how to add a data Feed App to your Trackunit account in general.

when you say it looks to see if the meta data has been over written, does that mean in a field where data was received or does it refer to an empty field where not data was received that you have manually entered data into, if this is the case can it read the data that has been manually inputted to see if the new oem received data is of a greater data quality and ask the user if they would like to update it.

I would also like to see asap a kpi in the sites tab that can tell me how many of my machines are received idle data either from an aemp feed. or track unit hardware

Hi @Andy T - thank you for your feedback! Can I ask you to post the part about sites as an Idea and I can forward it to our product team?

Thanks,

Stine

Hi @Andy T , thanks so much for your feedback and question!

The smart logic will remember the original state of the meta data fields when the data feed was connected, so it has a record of which fields were empty and which fields held what data. Then when different meta data is registered from the data feed at a new point in time, it will compare if any fields were manually updated via Manager in the meantime. This manual update could be deleting data, changing or adding meta data. If any manual update is registered on a field, it is then excluded from automatic updating so that we do not overwrite if for example you would like to name machines differently than what the data feed might call them.

About your comment in regards to judging data quality: this is a very tricky problem as we cannot judge what is more relevant to you and could count as higher quality. It is an interesting idea that we could inform users and ask them to judge if it should be updated or not. However, such a functionality is currently not included in this version of the feature.

Would you be interested in being a part of the Beta Group for testing this feature soon?
